Marketa Vondrousova will mark her Wimbledon title win by getting a matching strawberry tattoo with her coach Jan Hernych.

During the trophy ceremony at The Championships, Vondrousova revealed that she had made a bet with her coach that if she won the Grand Slam he would get a tattoo. The coach didn’t seem too excited about getting inked, but a deal is a deal. Then they decided to have matching “little strawberry” tattoos, paying homage to the classic Wimbledon dessert.

The initial plan was to get tattoos in London on Sunday, the day after the women’s singles final. Instead, they will do it in Prague at a later date. Vondrousova already has dozens of tattoos on her body, making her the most tattooed Wimbledon champion.

Strycova bids adieu to Wimbledon with women’s doubles title

Barbora Strycova clinched her second women’s doubles title at Wimbledon alongside Hsieh Su-Wei on Sunday. This was a remarkable final appearance at the grass-court Grand Slam for the Czech player.

With both players aged 37, their memorable triumph secured their place in the record books as the oldest combined age duo ever to claim a major title. Their extraordinary journey culminated in a 7-5 6-4 victory over third seeds Elise Mertens and Storm Hunter in the women’s doubles final at Wimbledon.

This victory was not the first time Strycova and Hsieh had tasted success at Wimbledon together. Four years prior, they had already written their names in Wimbledon’s history when they clinched the title for the first time. Hsieh clinched the Wimbledon women’s doubles crown twice more: in 2013 with Peng Shuai and in 2021 with Elise Mertens, one of her opponents this Sunday.

Strycova’s journey to this momentous triumph was accompanied by significant life changes. In September 2021, she welcomed her first child, a baby boy named Vincent, which made this victory even more meaningful. As she confirmed that this would be her last Wimbledon appearance, the win was the perfect farewell gift. “I couldn’t ask for a better finish,” she said.

Having made her return to the WTA Tour at the 2023 Madrid Open after embracing motherhood, Strycova had set her sights on retiring after the US Open. This Wimbledon title took on added significance, as she expressed, “We played here four years ago, and now I have a baby, and it’s even more special for me to come back and win the title again.”

Marketa Vondrousova beats Ons Jabeur to win Wimbledon!

World No.42 Marketa Vondrousova, the first unseeded Wimbledon finalist in the Open Era, defeated Ons Jabeur 6-4 6-4 to clinch her Grand Slam first title at The Championships.

Just as it seemed that Jabeur was in charge of the first set, Vondrousova won five consecutive games after trailing 4-2. This remarkable effort allowed her to not only snatch the first set but also begin the second set with a break.

Playing in the Wimbledon final for the second year in a row, Jabeur stopped her opponent’s momentum by breaking back right at the start of the second set and progressing into a 3-1 lead. For the third time, Vondrousova erased a two-game deficit, leveling to 3-3. At 4-4, Vondrousova sneaked away with a break and confidently held serve to become a surprise champion at Wimbledon 2023. Jabeur admitted that this was the toughest loss in her career, which makes her record in Grand Slam finals 0-3.

With her husband, Stepan Simek, supporting her from the stands, Vondrousova defied all odds and emerged as a Grand Slam champion. Prior to the tournament, she was not considered a favorite by anyone. In fact, her track record on grass was extremely modest, having only secured four Tour-level main-draw match wins on this surface before this year’s Wimbledon.

The 24-year-old Vondrousova didn’t even have an apparel sponsor at The Championships, as she had parted ways with Nike. We noticed that she was wearing a Lululemon outfit, although she didn’t officially promote them. Her tennis shoes were Nike Vapor Pro 2s, her racquet Yonex EZONE 100.

En route to her second career title, Vondrousova eliminated five seeds: No.12 Veronika Kudermetova, No.20 Donna Vekic, No.32 Marie Bouzkova, No.4 Jessica Pegula, and No.6 Ons Jabeur

Having parted ways with Nike at the start of the 2023 season, Marketa Vondrousova is without a clothing sponsor. The 2019 French Open finalist is not promoting any brand, but we noticed that her Wimbledon whites may be Lululemon.

When it comes to tennis shoes, Vondrousova remains faithful to her previous sponsor, Nike. Her preferred model is the Nike Vapor Pro 2. The recently unveiled white Nike footwear incorporates green accents and the inscription “8 mm” on the iconic Swoosh. This design element pays homage to the meticulously maintained grass courts of Wimbledon, which are famously trimmed to a precise height of 8mm.

The world No.42 Vondrousova plays with Yonex EZONE 100. Interestingly, she was the only Wimbledon 2023 women’s singles semifinalist not using a Wilson racquet.

Jabeur returns to Wimbledon final, Sabalenka again falls short of No.1 ranking

Ons Jabeur staged a comeback from a set and 4-2 deficit to beat Aryna Sabalenka 5-7(5) 6-4 6-3 and advance to the final of Wimbledon for the second consecutive year. The Tunisian’s semifinal victory means that Sabalenka has for the second consecutive Grand Slam failed to overtake Iga Swiatek at the top of the WTA rankings.

Ons Jabeur

The gruelling 58-minute first set went with serve, as Jabeur couldn’t convert her three break points and Sabalenka one. Even though at times it was Jabeur who played much better, the sixth seed failed to capitalize on her opportunities and her second-seeded opponent edged the set in a tiebreak. The world No.2 Sabalenka converted her second set point when Jabeur responded to her strong serve with a forehand error.

With Sabalenka taking a break lead in the second set, it appeared that Jabeur was destined for disappointment. Even in the post-match interview she admitted that she accepted defeat at one point and saw herself going home. However, the Tunisian found inner strength and started displaying a determined look in her eyes. She impressively won four straight games from 4-2 down, effectively pushing the match into a decisive third set. Jabeur’s tenacity breathed new life into the contest, setting the stage for an exciting conclusion.

From 2-2 in the decider, Jabeur started dominating the contest. With Jabeur leading 5-2, Sabalenka saved the first match point with her ninth ace and the second one with another good serve. However, the reigning Australian Open champion couldn’t survive her opponent’s service game, as Jabeur served an ace to convert her fifth match point.

Had Sabalenka won this semifinal, she would have overtaken Swiatek as the No.1 WTA player. Swiatek has held the top ranking since April 4, 2022, and will be spending her 68th week at No.1 after Wimbledon.

Jabeur’s opponent in the Wimbledon final will be Marketa Vondrousova, who defeated Elina Svitolina in the first semifinal on Centre Court this Thursday.

Vondrousova beats Svitolina to reach her first Wimbledon final

Prior to Wimbledon 2023, Marketa Vondrousova had a limited track record on grass, having won only four main-draw matches on the surface throughout her career. However, the 2019 French Open runner-up advanced to the final of the grass-court Grand Slam with a solid 6-3 6-3 victory over Elina Svitolina.

In the first women’s singles semifinal at this year’s Wimbledon, Vondrousova broke Svitolina’s serve three times in a row to take the first set. Building on her momentum, the Czech player swiftly established a commanding 4-0 lead in the second set, seemingly on her way to an easy victory. Nevertheless, Svitolina, a new mom on the tour, who had defeated four Grand Slam champions en route to the semifinal, had other plans.

Svitolina displayed remarkable resilience, winning three consecutive games to get the second set back on serve. Despite her efforts, the former world No.3 was unable to complete a full comeback, as Vondrousova regained her composure and secured another crucial break. In the following game, the world No.42 Vondrousova held her serve, closing out the match on her first match point and improving her career win-loss record on grass to 10-11.

The final obstacle between Vondrousova and the Wimbledon title will be last year’s runner-up Ons Jabeur, who fought past Aryna Sabalenka and denied the Belarusian the No.1 WTA ranking.

What is Marketa Vondrousova wearing at Wimbledon? Unraveling the mystery of her unbranded attire

Marketa Vondrousova, a former Roland Garros runner-up, has impressively reached the semifinals of Wimbledon. Despite her remarkable achievement, the Czech tennis player has yet to secure a new clothing sponsorship deal. This raises the question of what attire she is sporting during this fortnight at the prestigious grass-court Grand Slam.

As the 2023 season began, Vondrousova embarked on the new chapter of her tennis journey without the support of Nike. Months have passed, the Czech has even made it to the Wimbledon final four, yet, her tennis apparel remains unbranded.

Even though her Wimbledon outfit is not signed officially, I can make a guess what she’s wearing — Lululemon. In particular their bestseller Align™ Waist-Length Racerback Tank Top and Mesh Pleats Mid-Rise Mini Tennis Skirt. The lightweight, pleated skirt seems to be the same one that Canadian Leylah Fernandez, WTA player officially sponsored by Lululemon, wore in London. Have a close look at these items and tell me in the comments whether I am right.

When it comes to tennis shoes, Vondrousova is loyal to her former sponsor Nike. Her model of choice is the Nike Vapor Pro 2. The new white Nike footwear features green accents and the “8 mm” written on the Swoosh, inspired by Wimbledon’s grass that is mowed at an exact height of 8mm.

The world No.42’s white visor is also Nike.

Interestingly, Vondrousova is the only Wimbledon 2023 semifinalist playing with a Yonex racquet. Elina Svitolina, Ons Jabeur and Aryna Sabalenka all use Wilson.

Jabeur eliminates defending champion Rybakina in Wimbledon quarterfinals

In a repeat of last year’s Wimbledon final, Ons Jabeur rallied from a set down to eliminate defending champion Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals of The Championships, 6-7(5) 6-4 6-1.

The sixth-seeded Jabeur recovered from 1-3 to 3-3 at the start of the match and held a set point serving at 6-5, but Rybakina broke back right away and edged the first set in a tiebreak. The Kazakhstani has won a Tour-leading 12 tiebreak sets this year.

From 4-4 in the second set, Jabeur won five games in a row to force a deciding set and establish a commanding 3-0 lead in it. The Tunisian dropped just one more game in the remainder of the match, as Rybakina never recovered, lost her serve once more and fell on the first match point.

At Wimbledon 2022, Jabeur became the first Arab player to reach a Grand Slam final. Her semifinal opponent this time around will be second seed Aryna Sabalenka, who will be playing not only for her first Wimbledon final but also for the No.1 WTA ranking. The other women’s singles semifinal will be contested between Elina Svitolina and Marketa Vondrousova.

Sabalenka returns to Wimbledon semifinals, one win away from WTA No.1

Aryna Sabalenka defeated Madison Keys 6-2 6-4 in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon and is now just one match win away from overtaking Iga Swiatek at the top of the WTA rankings.

Aryna Sabalenka smiles at Wimbledon 2023

Facing the player who entered the quarterfinals undefeated on grass this year (9-0), the second-seeded Sabalenka cruised through the first set with breaks in the first and fifth games. In the second set, the reigning Australian Open champion found herself 4-2 down, but then took control by winning four straight games to reach her fourth straight semifinal at a major. In 2021, Sabalenka played Wimbledon semifinals.

For the second consecutive Slam, Sabalenka has a chance to overtake Swiatek at No.1. The Belarusian will need to win her upcoming semifinal which she will contest against Ons Jabeur, who eliminated defending champion Elena Rybakina.

The semifinal pair in the top half of the women’s singles draw was determined yesterday: wildcard Elina Svitolina vs. Marketa Vondrousova.
