Jelena Jankovic dropped her last two opening matches, at the BNP Paribas Open and Sony Ericsson Open, but her much-needed confidence could get a little boost as she defeated Francesca Schiavone in the first round of the inaugural Andalucia Tennis Experience.
Second seed Jankovic needed 62 minutes to get past the world No.47 Schiavone, giving away only three games to beat the Italian 6-2 6-1.
In the first set Jankovic established a 3-0, and even though Schiavone won the next two games, Jankovic didn’t spoil the lead she had earned and took the first set. The world No.4 faced no break points in the second set. (photo: Ralf Reinecke)
Is this what it’s come to for JJ? Celebrating an opening round win?? Let’s hope she pulls it together soon
RiCH, I was thinking about the same thing while writing this post.
I agree with Mr. Rich and the lovely Ms. Marija (the experts of tennis), it was a nice win for JJ not a quality win by any means. She beat a weaker opponent the way a top player should. I’m not throwing the confetti just yet, I have to see how she does throughout the tournament and when she faces tougher opposition. Once again I’m in wait and see mode.
Of course, Carlos, I’m just celebrating one match at a time (oh, remember the times when in similar tournaments we followed JJ from quarters onwards :P). I too am in wait and see mode.
I had to do my own celebration via DtL since she isn’t these days. I can pull a JJ no prob!
Hehe, I’ve seen it, RiCH. How will we celebrate if she wins in the second round too? 🙂
How about you two share a bottle of Kahlua for every round that JJ wins, maybe you can make black Russians and reminisce of a certain injure Russian. 😛
I would like to share Kahlua with RiCH, and, Carlos, you’re welcome too. I haven’t tried that drink yet, but as I see, it tastes like coffee, and I’m sure I would like it.
I gladly accept the invitation, it would be a blast to sit and share a drink with you Ms. Marija and Mr. RiCH. 🙂
