Victoria AzarenkaWorld No.12 Victoria Azarenka won the Premier-level Bank of the West Classic in Stanford on Sunday for her first title of the season, but soon after her agent said she would skip the August 2–8 Mercury Insurance Open in San Diego. The reason behind the Belorussian’s withdrawal is a right shoulder injury.

The Mercury Insurance Open was formerly known as the Acura Classic. The last champion was Maria Sharapova in 2007, and the tournament wasn’t held in 2008 and 2009.

The top four seeds at the 2010 Mercury Insurance Open are Jelena Jankovic, Samantha Stosur, Vera Zvonareva and Agnieszka Radwanska. (source: Reuters, photo: Stephane Martinache)

  1. unrelated: serena williams, justine henin, samantha stosur, ana ivanovic have confirmed they’re playing at hopman cup in australia! how exciting.. well for me anyway. hah xx

  2. because its such an amazing line up i think i will! it’ll be alot of fun. ultimate would be usa vs serbia as serena and ana are in my top 5. so great!!! flights to perth arnt expensive either so perhaps! i’ll let you know. my mum bought me a camera a week or two ago because i was sick so now i have a really good SLR camera!

sydney i will go too for sure! venus has confirmed she is playing as well, which is gonna be amazing 🙂

  3. I also wanna get camera when im sick! or cute shoes 🙂 you are so lucky. we have no WTA tournament in this sucky slovakia 🙁

  4. atleast your close to like, 100 different countries. australia is surrounded by ocean… and Antarctica. great

    🙁

  5. That’s why Australia is that special. It’s far away from everywhere so when I’ll come there once, it will be more special for me than to visit Italy or Poland. Australia fascinates me lot 🙂

  6. You’re so lucky Jacob 🙂 You have a lot of choice in the tournaments you can go to. I’d say Hopman Cup will be awesome, Novak and Ana make such a cute couple!

  7. Jacob, hahaha I’ll take that as an invitation. 🙂 Don’t say it twice. 🙂 Sydney is definitely on my travel map.

“Ultimate would be usa vs serbia”, you think so, with Ana’s form? But Bróna is right, Novak and Ana are an awesome couple.

And of course, I’m looking forward to your pics, Jacob.

  8. hmmmm. i’m not sure really. I love ana alot and i suppose fans just follow them through the rough times… i don’t think serena and ana have versed each other in so long either.. poor ana. she has an amazing game i think, and she seems to be playing better i suppose. hopefully she’ll go well at us open and get some points! The hopman cup is a nice little tournament. It has a new broadcaster next year so perhaps it’ll be different, well, of course it will be, and i imagine alot better. (ABC is so low budget and no one really watches it, its moved to “One Hd” which is an Oceanic sport channel.

Yes come to sydney!!!!! I’ll take you around! haha.

And yes Brona you’re right. Sydney, Brisbane, Hopman, Hobart and Australian open! I really hope the Australian open doesn’t move to China because players wouldn’t really come to australian, i mean, no point really? and australia are building new courts and stuff so fingers crossed!

I just found out Serena and Ana have only versed twice. Isn’t that alittle odd?

  9. Jacob, yes, having in mind their top positions for a long time it’s odd they faced each other only twice.
