Ana Ivanovic beats Elena Vesnina to reach Cincinnati quarterfinals

Ana Ivanovic at Cincinnati 2010Ana Ivanovic has continued her Cincinnati run by defeating Elena Vesnina in the third round. The Serb lost only three games to beat the Russian 6-0 6-3 in 64 minutes.

Ivanovic raced to a 4-0 lead in just 15 minutes, winning every point on Vesnina’s second serve. In that first set Ivanovic didn’t face a single break point, while in the second set the former world No.1 faced three and fought off all of them.

Ivanovic’s opponent in the quarterfinals will not be compatriot and top seed Jelena Jankovic, but rather world No.114 Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan who upset Jankovic 7-6(3) 6-4.

In all the matches that have finished by now on Thursday, lower seeds defeated higher seeds. No.11 Flavia Pennetta beat No.6 Vera Zvonareva 6-4 6-3, No.12 Yanina Wickmayer defeated No.8 Li Na 2-6 6-2 7-6(4), and No.16 Marion Bartoli saw off No.2 seed Caroline Wozniacki 6-4 6-1.   1. Wow, Marija, you’re quick :-). I am also very happy for Ana, this is what we’ve been hoping for for a long time. Wish she continued this way in her future match. It’s a big relief that she doesn’t have to face Jelena although the girl who beat her must also be a pretty tough opponent.

    Even the remaining Thursday matches finished with lower seeds / unseeded players beatings higher seeds. Sharapova beat Radwanska, Pavlyuchenkova beat Peer. Actually, there is one exception: Clijsters defeateed McHale.

  3. But this time, I’m first to announce good news. Ana’s just beaten Akgul 6 -1 , 6- 3! I watched the whole match and she was amazing!She very much reminded me of the ANA 2008. Ajde!!!
