Ricardo Sanchez is Caroline Wozniacki’s new coach and he will work with the Danish world No.1 alongside her father Piotr.

Wozniacki is glad to have a coach who is familiar with her game and the games of her opponents, while Sanchez made him dream come true by partnering with the 21-year-old.

Here’s how Wozniacki commented on the new cooperation:

We know him very well, and he has been watching so many of my matches and created tactics against me, so he really knows me as a player. He also knows all the other girls on the tour very well.

Sanchez is thrilled about his new assignment:

It’s like a dream come true. Like Pep Guardiola must have felt when he was allowed to coach FC Barcelona. I have seen many of Caroline’s matches, and she has become my idol because of her personality and hard work. Piotr and I will work closely together about everything. I have a lot of respect for the work he did with Caroline. She picks up new things very quickly, and without injuries and with everything well organized, we will go to Australia and try to win there.

Sanchez and Wozniacki signed a one-year deal.

Interestingly, Tennis.com states that Sanchez is not the mystery coach mentioned so many times this summer. Remember Wozniacki’s words this August?

Well, you know, I don’t want to talk too much about it because the other coach I’ve been working with, he doesn’t want to have his name out. I have to respect that.

The peculiarity of the Sanchez coaching is that not so long ago he was working with former No.1 Jelena Jankovic. After their split, in February 2010 Jankovic said on her website:

From now on I work without a coach, since I ended cooperation with Ricardo Sanchez. The goal is to return to my old game, which I had during the best results, and I believe I’m on the right track.

  1. It’ll be interesting to see in what direction will ther cooperation go. Sanchez brought JJ’s defense to the maximum in 2008, so i’m not sure is he gonna stick to that similar plan, or is gonna take Caro’s game to some new level. I personally think Caro’s days of best defense are gone and read, her game needs some change right now.

  2. wozniacki really needs to have someone that can bring her defensive style to more variety!! pleasee!!

  3. I think they made a great choice. Sanchez has a reputation of a very hard-working coach who puts a lot of effort into making his player better. I saw a video of him coaching JJ, he was behaving a bit like a daddy there 🙂

  4. she will learn to be meanspirited from Sanchez plus Sanchez failed to make JJ a slam winner so how is he going to make Caro win….
