Caroline Wozniacki, Jamie Hampton, Yanina Wickmayer and Elena Vesnina reached the semifinalists of the Premier-level Aegon International in Eastbourne, while most of the WTA players were preparing for the Pre-Wimbledon Party.

This week at the tournament, top seed Agnieszka Radwanska lost in the first round, as well as the defending champion Tamira Paszek, while third seed Angelique Kerber and fourth seed Petra Kvitova fell in the second round, together with three British stars Laura Robson, Heather Watson and Elena Baltacha.

Skipping the red carpet action in London, Wozniacki is piling up match wins in Eastbourne and her latest is today’s solid 4-6 6-0 6-3 victory over Ekaterina Makarova, which now makes the Dane’s head-to-head record against the Russian 6-0. Her semifinal opponent will be Jamie Hampton (the one who took out the top seed early on), after the American beat Lucie Safarova 3-6 7-6(1) 6-4, even though the Czech was serving for the match in the second set.

Second seed Li Na exited the tournament at the hands of Elena Vesnina, 7-6(4) 6-3, while Yanina Wickmayer upset sixth seed Maria Kirilenko 6-2 1-6 7-5. (photo: sr_cranks)

  1. Nice to see Caroline doing well. Her vs Hampton will be a very interesting semifinal. I saw Jamie in Brussels and she was pretty impressive. Also a grinder type, just like Woz. Hopefully it will be a pretty competitive match.
