After going 0-6 in her first six WTA finals, Elena Vesnina has won both the title matches she reached this season – following her Hobart title in January, the Russian triumphed today at the AEGON International, ending American qualifier Jamie Hampton‘s remarkable run.
In their first meeting, Vesnina saved all the five break points that Hampton earned in the encounter, all in the first set, and ended the memorable week of the American, which included a first-round win over top seed Agnieszka Radwanska and fifth seed Caroline Wozniacki in the semis, with a 6-2 6-1 triumph for a $117,000 prize.
