Second seed Victoria Azarenka moved into her second straight US Open final by defeating unseeded Flavia Pennetta. Just like last year, the Belarusian will meet Serena Williams in the championships match.

The encounter finished  in an hour and 34 minutes, 6-4 6-2. The players exchanged seven breaks in the first nine games. Vika was hitting hard but she just couldn’t find her game. Even though she had 18 unforced errors and 8 winners against her opponent’s 11 unforced errors and 10 winners, Azarenka won the set in 52 minutes. In the second set they had three breaks at the start but then Azarenka managed to hold and lead 4-1. After that Pennetta broke Azarenka’s serve, but in the end the second set was finished in 42 minutes, 6-2.

After the match the last year’s runner-up said:

It’s an amazing opportunity, something that every player dreams of, to be in the final of the US Open and play against the best player in the world. It’s something that I’m so excited about, and I can’t wait to go out and play.
