Klara Zakopalova divorced and got back to Koukalova?

If Klara Zakopalova Koukalova read my article on March 1, 2014, entitled: “Klara wins first WTA title since becoming Zakopalova” she must have felt bitter taste in her mouth. As I hear now from my photographer Jimmie48, the Czech player got divorced probably back in January and returned to her maiden name, Koukalova. This actually implies that the 32-year-old won no WTA titles during her seven-and-a-half-year marriage to Czech soccer player Jan Zakopal, while she had won two in 2005 (she got married on June 6, 2006). Oops!

Klara’s ITF profile has been updated with her maiden name, but the WTA is still sticking to Zakopalova. Actually, when she won Florianopolis in the beginning of March, the WTA stated in their article: “This was her first WTA title since the wedding.” So neither then, nor now, are they acknowledging that she’s no longer with her husband.

Here’s a Czech source informing about the divorce. Do you, dear readers, happen to have any more info?

Does this story belong to my WTA Players and their Lover Partners series? 😛 I suppose it does!

  1. I follow the WTA like I do all sports, but am in wonder if the WTA might be open to some
    constructive change. I love to see Klara Koukalova, but realistically, with the taller, much
    stronger women of today, as opposed to yesteryears, she will never break the top 10
    due to lack of size and power. Watching Klara against both Garbine Mugduruza and
    Taylor Townsend, it seems Klara likely will never beat those players again, like
    David and Goliath in basketball(especially Townsend who outweighs Klara by 50
    lbs). America’s sweethearts such as Chris Evert are gone and I’d hate to see Klara gone
    to early. What if the WTA had two or three different weight divisions in some, but not
    all tournaments(like boxing, heavy, middle, light etc)? I love to watch pretty women
    like Klara in the WTA and wish Taylor Townsend and Garbine Magduzura the best
    too, but if WTA loses all it’s best looking women, sales go down. Unfortunately, due to
    size and power, I feer Taylor Townsend will sweep Klara Koukalova in straight sets
    prompting Klara’s retirement. Any comments, feel free to send them to Lemay99
    @comcast.net as well.
