Germany and Czech Republic move into November’s Fed Cup final

Germany beat Australia 3-1 and Czechs defeated Italy 4-0 in the World Group semis to reach the Fed Cup final which will take place November 8-9 in the Czech Republic.

Australian Samantha Stosur came into the tie with 33 Fed Cup match wins to her name, but this weekend she fell both to German Andrea Petkovic and Angelique Kerber, and as Kerber also swept past Casey Dellacqua, it was an insurmountable 3-0 lead for the German team and the subsequent doubles victory of Dellacqua and Ashleigh Barty over Julia Goerges and Anna-Lena Groenefeld couldn’t change the final outcome.

The Czech team was even more decisive, with absolutely no losses. Lucie Safarova scored a 6-4 6-1 victory over Sara Errani, then Petra Kvitova beat both Camila Giorgi and Roberta Vinci in straight sets, 6-4 6-2 and 6-3 7-5 respectively, and the doubles pair of Andrea Hlavackova and Klara Koukalova (until recently Zakopalova) overcame Camila Giorgi and Karin Knapp.

Germans will be looking for their third Fed Cup title and Czechs for their eighth.
