First of all, isn’t this JJ gif hilarious? I’ve seen it so many times and it’s always funny!
Indian Wells is a place where Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic won the biggest title of her career, back in 2010, and now after two first-round losses and two second-round losses in 2015, the 30-year-old made the semifinals of the $5,381,235 tournament. Sporting a cute fishtail braid and her new pink Fila Spring Glow Dress, JJ absolutely dominated her quarterfinal encounter with Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko, whose body, i.e. her ankle, eventually said “no more” and she retired while trailing 6-1 4-1. This fast victory is surely benefiting the 18th-seeded Jankovic, after her three successive three-setters. By the way, the Tennis Island has an excellent story about Tsurenko, who went all the way through qualifying and then defeated Annika Beck, ninth seed Andrea Petkovic, seed No.20 Alize Cornet and sixth seed Eugenie Bouchard.
Let me tell you, prior to winning the 2010 Indian Wells title, JJ had won only three matches in her four previous tournaments that year. Quite similar situation to this year! 😉 OK, the BNP Paribas Open title is a long shot for JJ, but I do miss seeing her more. Her next opponent will be the winner of the match between seed No.24 Sabine Lisicki and 15th-seeded defending champion Flavia Pennetta, while the other semifinal features top seed Serena Williams and third seed Simona Halep. Strong field! Whatever happens, Jankovic is projected to return to the Top 20.
Methinks JJ has an excellent shot to beat either Pennetta or Lisicki. Who knows we could have a JJ- Serena final!
I love when JJ has these weeks where she comes out of nowhere and reminds us just how good she can be. You never know what might happen… I would love nothing more than to see her standing with the trophy at the end of the tournament- it would certainly shake things up a bit!
Jim, Serena vs. JJ would be a dream final for me! Serena would probably crush her, buuuuut as you may know, JJ is one of the players who has the best record against the Williams sisters, so who knows 😉
Bróna, fingers crossed! 🙂 I’m usually impartial on my blog, but JJ has a special place in my heart. 🙂
I have been out of town for part of this week and unable to watch the matches, but I am glad that lil’ miss Sunshine is still kicking. I hope she wins the semi tonight, but I am working and will be unable to watch it. Come On JJ, win it for P!nky! 🙂
I believe JJ can pull it off this time. Considering she’s really not playing the past few months, she needs this magical run as her spring board on her next events. It will definitely give her confidence. I hope Fila makes her a better dress for clay court season considering her great results here in Indian Wells.
P!nky, and she’s done it! 😀 I’m so excited for JJ! 🙂 Vote in my poll for the winner of the final 😉 https://womenstennisblog.com/2015/03/21/good-and-bad-semifinal-surprises-in-indian-wells-can-jj-beat-halep/
Emman Damian, I’ve become a fan of this dress actually. It looks great on JJ’s body, the pink color suits her fun personality and I have to say that the fishtail braid perfectly completes the entire look. The dress is not so innovative, but in its simplicity it looks great.
