US Open runner-up Roberta Vinci made the final of the St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy with a 7-5 6-4 victory over Ana Ivanovic.

The match started with Ivanovic leading 3-0, but Vinci soon recovered to 3-3. The crucial point of the set was at 5-5, when Ivanovic was 40-15 up on serve. The Serb blew the big chance, got broken after committing two double faults in the game and the Italian grabbed the momentum which she kept all the way to the victory, recording just 12 unforced errors to Ivanovic’ 29.

Vinci’s opponent in the final will be top seed Belinda Bencic, who defeated Daria Kasatkina 6-4 6-3 in the second Saturday’s semifinal. During the match, Kasatkina was troubled by a lower back injury and even though she showed fleshes of good tennis, Bencic was overall a better and more consistent player. (photo: Jimmie48)
