Kvitova is not engaged any more

It was only in December 2015 that Petra Kvitova happily announced engagement to Czech hockey player Radek Meidl and just a few months later they are no longer together. Kvitova and her fiancé actually broke up some time in May, but I didn’t want to rush to report it, as I thought it could have been just a rumor. Now I can pretty confidently say that it is true.

Was Kvitova prophetic in her January’s interview with Forbes?

Interviewer: It’s a busy year for you, not only the Olympics, but you are also getting married to Czech hockey player Radek Meidl. Does it help to have an athlete as a partner?

Petra Kvitova: I’m not getting married, I’m just engaged. (Smiles)

He’s an ice hockey player, and he understands my job and I understand his. But it’s still very different. He’s playing in the winter in the Czech Republic, and I’m playing in the summer which is weird.

The world No.11 Kvitova was playing the Aegon Classic Birmingham this week, but Jelena Ostapenko defeated her for the second straight time this year, in Thursday’s second-round action.
