Taylor Townsend is ready to seriously challenge the US Open’s biggest WTA fashionistas with a red corset-style dress adorned with a dramatic fringe of crystals.
Aryna Sabalenka’s revealing basketball-net dress and chunky diamond jewelry, Naomi Osaka’s signature Grand Slam extravagance, Marta Kostyuk’s stunning red Wilson dress, and the tournament’s other fashion-forward stars now have some serious competition. Townsend tapped celebrity stylist J. Bolin to creative-direct her daring custom look, designed by Anthony Lattimore.

Townsend is no stranger to over-the-top tennis apparel. We all remember her neon-yellow bodysuit, while last year at the US Open she turned heads in a fiery long-sleeved top with flames dramatically racing up the arms. Her green dress at Roland Garros 2026 was another memorable fashion moment.
But her 2026 US Open look means even more serious business.
Red like molten lava, the dress immediately commands attention. The first detail that catches the eye is the corset-inspired bodice, with white lines sculpting and emphasizing the hourglass shape of the silhouette.
Then comes the pièce de résistance: a curtain of red crystal fringe, hand-beaded to create a dramatic, shimmering effect. The sexy movement of the fringe brings to mind the embellished skirts worn by belly dancers.
The center section features mesh, a deliberately daring choice. According to the product description, this is precisely the area where designers would traditionally be expected to play it safe, making Townsend’s decision to leave it exposed all the more striking.
Black panels running down the sides add definition, while a flared skirt completes the dramatic silhouette.
“Hard launching one of my custom US Open dresses,” Townsend wrote on Instagram, sharing photos of herself in the new look alongside sketches and additional details about the design.
And there is an intriguing clue in that caption: the second-ranked doubles player says this is one of her custom US Open dresses. Which means this red crystal-fringe creation may only be the beginning. If her first look is any indication, the American has arrived in New York ready to make a serious statement.
The US Open is the only Grand Slam where Townsend hasn’t won a women’s doubles title, although she was twice very close, having played the final in 2025 and 2022.
