New approach from Yonex: One-shoulder dresses and diagonal lines for the US Open

Yonex is stepping out of its comfort zone for the 2026 US Open! The New York collection introduces asymmetrical necklines, angled skirt hems, and sheer mesh inserts. Here is a first look at the apparel, headlined by world No. 2 Elena Rybakina.

The centerpieces of the collection are asymmetric one-shoulder dresses offered in prune, black, and yellow. The design leans heavily on geometric construction, using a clean single-strap neckline accented by contrasting trim or minimalist brand detailing. The prune variation features an asymmetrical white colorblock panel across the upper chest, while the black and yellow editions maintain a solid, unbroken color. On the lower half, a sharp diagonal seam separates a smooth bodice from a fully flared A-line skirt.

The collection also features ultra-modern cropped tank tops that echo geometric style lines. Available in pale lilac, black, and yellow, these tops feature a high neckline with a curved asymmetrical seam slicing across the chest. Above the curve sits a see-through mesh section that breathes excellently while showing off an edgy contrast.

Turn the top around, and you will find a racerback design accented by vertical piping framing a central mesh ventilation panel. A thick, dark elastic band anchors the bottom, keeping the cropped silhouette secure during intense rallies.

Rounding out the separate pieces are the coordinating tennis skirts. The design features an elastic waistband that flows into a slight A-line silhouette. An asymmetric style line cuts diagonally across the lower half of the skirt, dividing the opaque performance fabric from a sheer mesh hem panel. This strategic placement provides both a contemporary visual contrast and targeted ventilation during high-intensity play.

The asymmetric dress reminds me a little of Ana Ivanovic’s famous purple Adidas dress for the 2009 Australian Open, although hers featured ruching and a straight rather than diagonal hem. Personally, my favorites from this Yonex collection are the separates. Their youthful cuts and versatile color palette offer something for everyone: vibrant yellow for those who love a pop of color, pale pink for the neutrals crowd, and black for, well, those who love black.
