After plenty of rain in Eastbourne on Monday, it was all blue skies and sunshine at the 2016 Aegon International on Tuesday and the tournament’s second round wrapped up.

Unfortunately, the event has already said goodbye to defending champion Belinda Bencic, who lost her opener to Russian Elena Vesnina in straight sets, making an early exit from the scene of her first WTA title.

Other high seeds fared much better, as Petra Kvitova, Eugenie Bouchard and Agnieszka Radwanska all safely advanced to the third round. While Kvitova and Bouchard won their matches in straight sets, Radwanska had to play less than a full match as opponent Marijana Lucic-Baroni retired early into the second set.

Tuesday finally had some good news for the local fans in store as well. Following three British singles losses on Monday, Johanna Konta kept the British hopes alive, getting past Lesia Tsurenko.

The tournament’s third round is due to be played on Wednesday as the final grass tournament before Wimbledon is quickly picking up the pace. Keep checking back for all the latest live from Eastbourne.
