Action at the 2017 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells kicked off on Monday and the qualifying stage of the tournament is now underway.

While fans in “Tennis Paradise” got to watch plenty of qualifying action for free on several courts, many of the tournament’s main-draw players were busy training for their attempt at winning one of the most prestigious WTA titles of the season.

In the afternoon, all eyes were on the draw ceremony. The stacked field was set with the help of many fans who got to meet two players at opposite ends of their careers: former world #1 Jelena Jankovic, who is in the closing stage of her career, and young American CiCi Bellis, who came to Indian Wells straight from a great run at the Middle Eastern WTA tournaments. Bellis continues her quick raise in the ranking after turning pro just last fall.

The second qualifying round will be completed tomorrow, as Indian Wells gears up for two exciting weeks of tennis. Keep checking back to Women’s Tennis Blog for all the latest from the Californian desert.
