Match after match, 17-year-old Marketa Vondrousova continued to amaze us and the Czech qualifier capped the perfect week with a 6-4 7-6(6) victory over Anett Kontaveit of Estonia in the Ladies Open Biel Bienne final.

Playing just her second WTA main draw, the world No.233 Vondrousova almost lost her first match in qualifying, but then got better and better, recording victories over Annika Beck, Kristyna Pliskova and even top seed Barbora Strycova for her first Top 20 win. In the title match, playing against fellow first-time WTA finalist Kontaveit, ranked 99th, Vondrousova edged past her opponent at the end of each set.

Vondrousova, who will come close to the Top 100 when the new rankings are released on Monday, won $43,000 in champion’s prize money and after the final she said she doesn’t even know what to do with that amount, being used to winning $1,000 as a winner at 15K tournaments.

The Czech’s winning apparel: the Nike Spring Premier Slam Tank and the Nike Spring Print Power Spin Skirt.
