Serena reveals shiny gold Nike kicks for her Australian Open title defense

The Australian Open fashion releases are kicking into higher gear, as right after showing you Maria Sharapova’s Nike dress for the upcoming Grand Slam, I’m learning that these banging shoes that Serena Williams revealed on Instagram yesterday are actually footwear for her title defense in Melbourne.

After her special-edition rhinestone-encrusted Nike sneakers that wowed everyone at her wedding, the tennis legend brings on extraordinary tennis shoes and pairs them with stunning socks whose gold back section perfectly complements and enhances the sparkly kicks. The breathtaking Nike design screams: “Momma’s back!”

What her three-and-a-half-month-old daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. thinks of the new design? Let the picture do the talking!

In a way, it’s the baby’s title defense as well, as Serena was pregnant during her run to the 2017 Australian Open champion’s trophy.

As you know, the new mom has officially entered the Australian Open. Tournament director Craig Tiley stated a few days ago:

She’s got her visa, she’s entered, she’s practising. There’s no question she’ll be ready in our view.

I can’t wait to see the dress that will go with these shoes! It can’t possibly be any less spectacular.

  1. Ian, I don’t know yet and I’m also not sure they will be available for purchase. Not all Serena’s shoes have been at retail.

Jim, so cute! I like the street style.

  2. Dull, IMO, it’s realistic that she won’t play, while she’s keeping us in the dark for marketing reasons. If she does play, then I’ll admire her even more and consider her extraterrestrial 🙂

  3. So with Serena not playing and these sneakers not matching the colors of Nike’s Australian Open Pallette…are these what she will wear when she returns in March? I haven’t seen any images of Serena’s potential Australian Open dress if she were to play?

  4. Daniela, Nike didn’t create an AO dress for Serena. She wore a pink version of these shoes at her Abu Dhabi exhibition, while I believe she’ll have a new pair of shoes in March, but we’ll see.

  5. As always, thank you for your insight, Marija!
I can’t wait until Queen Serena returns for both her tennis, and her fashions 🙂
