Serena Williams lost just three games to see off her sister Venus in the third round of the 2018 US Open, their 30th career meeting. Serena’s 6-1 6-2 scoreline equals her most lopsided win over her big sis, the semifinal one that happened at Charleston 2013.
The 36-year-old Serena, who gave birth to her daughter last September, commented on the dominant triumph:
This was my best match since I have returned.
Venus also praised her sister’s game:
I don’t think I did a lot wrong. But she just did everything right.
Moreover, the 38-year-old considers this was Serena’s best performance in their 30 encounters, because she did not “even get to really touch any balls”.
In the second game of the match, Serena twisted her right ankle and had it treated soon afterwards, but it apparently didn’t prevent her from reaching the fourth round at the US Open for the 17th successive time.
In the last 16, Serena will face Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi, who upset world No.1 Simona Halep in the first round.
Well, what did you expect from the Queen of the court, despite Venus’ greatness & power? All hail Queen Serena Williams/The GOAT! And, congrats on your win today over Kaia Kanepi. who gave it her all. Kaia did a fine job of taking out Halep, but the Queen proved to be just too good for her today. Can’t believe my girl Kerber is out! The King of 5 setters is on now, fighting for the win. Go, Isner! Today is a great day to be watching tennis after church. I’ll be watching the rebroadcast of Queen Serena’s match tonight on The Tennis Channel for sure.
Winning does not make Serena a nice person.
The way she treated that lineswoman on court should never be forgotten.
She was fined – but then allowed to play doubles.
Why are people afraid of that bully?
