Wearing the Fall Shiasa Tank and Fall Celeste Skirt from her new clothing sponsor Ellesse, Briton Johanna Konta upset third seed Sloane Stephens 6-4 6-3 in the first round of the Brisbane International. The world No.37 Konta recorded her 15th career victory over a Top 10 player and first since Wimbledon 2017. Konta’s next opponent will be Croatian Ajla Tomljanovic, who defeated Katerina Siniakova 1-6 6-3 6-0.
Fourth seed Petra Kvitova needed more than three hours to get past Danielle Collins 6-7(6) 7-6(3) 6-3 in the first round, while eighth seed Anastasia Sevastova eliminated home star Daria Gavrilova 6-3 6-3. In the second round, second seed Naomi Osaka ended the run of qualifier Destanee Aiava 6-3 6-2.
