How Caroline Wozniacki met David Lee + more wedding photos

Tennis star Caroline Wozniacki married former basketball pro David Lee under the Tuscan sun on Saturday, June 15th, and Vogue‘s Alexandra Macon is giving us an inside look into the wedding, my favorite part being the groom’s speech about how he first met his now-wife. The fashion magazine has also published a 64-photo slideshow, but here I’ll share photos that Caro’s WTA friends Angelique Kerber, Agnieszka Radwanska, and Urszula Radwanska posted on social media (Serena Williams, who was a bridesmaid, hasn’t posted anything yet).

Here’s how David Lee recalls his fateful day in Miami:

It’s November 2015…we’re playing against the Miami Heat. I can’t remember who won or lost, which probably means we lost by 30 points. I go out to dinner afterwards… they say every relationship begins with a miracle… the fact that [you were out at] dinner past 7:30 p.m.—because normally you would be asleep 8:00 p.m.—was a miracle.

They took the Fisher Island Ferry back to Caroline’s place, hung out for a bit, and then David went to sleep in the guest room. The only thing that I don’t understand, that Vogue doesn’t explain, is how come that David slept at Caroline’s place. In the morning he hoped to spend more time with Caroline, but all his attempts were in vain. When he suggested to watch her morning practice, the former world No.1 rejected his offer by saying: “People don’t watch practice.” Then he thought they could have breakfast together, but Caroline’s coach was on his way. When David thought he could eat with both Caroline and her coach, the tennis star responded: “That won’t work either. My coach is my dad.”

How David eventually succeeded, we don’t know. 🙂

The wedding also featured an Italian-market-themed rehearsal dinner, so the guests needed to bring several outfits to the wedding. The bride’s alternative look included a glittery white Temperley London dress with colorful floral embroideries, a peasant-style hairdo, hoop earrings and a bright red lipstick. Angelique Kerber wore a simple sleeveless colorblock dress with black waist-accentuating belt.

The Radwanskas looked stunning in loose floral dresses, especially Aga in the shoulderless halter-neck design. If you remember, Caroline was also at Aga’s wedding in July 2017 in Poland. Aga’s husband Dawid Celt accompanied his wife at Caro’s wedding, even though you can’t see him in these pics.

The wedding weekend also included a series of lighthearted sports competitions, which were meant to relax the attendees and get them to know each other in a fun atmosphere.

After the big day, the newlyweds had a mini honeymoon, as Caro called it, going for a yacht ride in Portofino. Kisses, champagne and cake on the deck of a boat in Italy, what more can you ask for.

Caroline had another perfect outfit for the occasion: a fluffy white tassel skirt and a tribal print crop top.

The dedication you have to tennis, your daily routine, everything you do to be the champion that you are, it’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen. Even above that is the class and the principles that you live by, and that means more than any match you could ever win, any tournament you could ever win, and it’s for that reason that young girls look up to you, the whole world looks up to you for what you do and what you stand for, and why I look up to you so much. As a man you’ve made me a better person. I love you with all of my heart and promise to treat you like the most special woman now and forever.
