The modeling photos are accompanied by an interview, as the 22-year-old discusses the US Open, racial issues she’s faced as a half-Haitian half-Japanese person who grew up in the US (as she explained, microaggression for not looking Japanese enough), and the conversations with Kobe Bryant that still resonate in her head (she once told the late Kobe that she wanted to be just like him, while he responded, “No, be better.”)

Osaka is currently in New York, playing the Western & Southern Open, where she awaits Dayana Yastremska in the third round, following a hard-fought win over Karolina Muchova in her first match since the COVID-19 layoff.
