Bombshell: Maria Sharapova is engaged to long-time boyfriend Alexander Gilkes! Congratulations!
The Russian tennis star shared a series of love photos with caption: “I said yes from the first day we met. This was our little secret, wasn’t it.”
Her fiancé also shared a romantic black-and-white photo, saying: “Thank you for making me a very very happy boy. I look forward to a lifetime of loving you, and learning from you.” He’s right, there’s definitely a lot to learn from Masha!
The couple started dating publicly in 2018. Previously, Sharapova was engaged to Slovenian basketball player Sasha Vujacic (they broke off the engagement in 2012 after about three years of dating), and then she dated ATP player Grigor Dimitrov between 2012 and 2015. Gilkes was married to fashion designer Misha Nonoo (they were together for 13 years, including their marriage that lasted from 2012 to 2016/2017).
Alexander Gilkes is a 41-year-old born in London, who has both wealth and social status. His friends are Prince William and Prince Harry, as they met during studies at Eton College. Gilkes is co-founder and president of Paddle8, an online auction house selling works of art and collectibles. The WTA player’s future husband speaks Russian and appreciates Russian literature.

Upon his break up with Kiki Mladenovic, Thiem said he could not give her the commitment that she needed, so I think his tennis is his love for now. Maybe, when he is in his thirties he will get serious about THE woman. Until then he should fun date, of course. I think American skier, Mikaela Shiffrin had a crush on him, watching him play in 2 finals at the French Open. Maybe he should stick closer to home, and date Austrian skier, Anna Veith (I think Domi likes older women;). If he wants to date an Austrian tennis player, since their are no notable current ones, then he should have a fun date with former tennis player and current Austrian tennis commentator, Barbara Schett. At 44 she still looks pretty fit.
Congrats to my all time fav player Maria Sharapova. I always believed Maria needs to be with someone like Alex. Maria is a strong independent woman, knows what she wants, successful, who can speak in public flawslessly. I feel like Alex is more mature (compare to any of her exes) , patient, and classy. And it seems he can handle her both at her best and her worst. Vice versa to Maria as well.

Ian, I agree, Alexander should be more mature and that is definitely a good choice for Maria. Although, I feel like it is very difficult for Maria to find a good match because she is so superior in every aspect. I hope that this guy is on par with her.
