Dutch WTA star Michaella Krajicek and her partner Jelle Sels will become parents this summer. The tennis couple threw a baby gender reveal party and announced that it was a boy.
This news fills my heart with joy, as Michaella’s post-divorce interview still resonates in my head. In 2017, after two years of marriage, Krajicek divorced her long-time partner Martin Emmrich, who had famously proposed to her in front of the crowd at the 2014 Topshelf Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Her ex-husband soon remarried (he tied the knot with former Top 200 WTA player Tamaryn Hendler), while Krajicek continued to live in their Prague apartment and revealed in one interview: “Ironically, now I have a nursery at home, but he has another girlfriend with whom he is engaged and with whom he now expects a child.”
Better times have come and Michaella is now expecting her first child. Due date is July 31st. Michaella has been dating Jelle Sels for a few years now. He is a 25-year-old Dutch tennis player currently ranked No.336 on the ATP Tour. His career-high ranking is No.260, achieved in December 2018.
The half-sister of former world No.4 and Wimbledon champion Richard Krajicek reached the 2007 Wimbledon quarterfinals and a career-high singles ranking of No.30 in February 2008, but injuries and surgeries have prevented her from catching a break and right now she’s a rare topic in the tennis world.
