Madison Keys to headline new WTA event, Charleston 250

Immediately after the WTA 500 Volvo Car Open scheduled for early April, Charleston will host a WTA 250 tournament at LTP Daniel Island Tennis Center, April 10-18.

Leading the field is top seed Madison Keys. The American has had great success on Charleston’s green clay, winning the Volvo Car Open in 2019 and reaching its final in 2015. In addition to Keys, the player list includes Grand Slam champion Sloane Stephens, Amanda Anisimova, Jessica Pegula, Coco Gauff, Danielle Collins and Charleston native Shelby Rogers.

The 32-player draw will be made up of 23 direct entries, four wildcards, four qualifiers and one special exempt. In addition to the qualifying and singles draws, the tournament will also host a doubles tournament.

Both the Volvo Car Open and the Charleston 250 will be held without spectators due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Tennis Channel and WTA Media will broadcast the tournament.
