The legendary story about Richard Williams taking his two daughters Serena and Venus from Compton, California to tennis superstardom is depicted in a Warner Bros. movie entitled “King Richard”, set to be released on November 19.
Based on true events, the film will give us a closer look into Richard’s determination and unparalleled vision to lead his girls to the top of the world. Venus and Serena, together with their sister, Isha Price are executive producers on the movie.
Faced with disbelief of other people, Richard says in the trailer: “I wrote a 78-page plan for their whole career before they were even born.” Also, he knew early on that the success of his daughters would be much more than their personal success, as he told them: “You’re not just going to be representing you, you’re going to be representing every little Black girl on Earth.”
The role of Richard Williams will be played by Will Smith, while the Williams sisters will be played by Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton. This is the second time Will Smith is in the role of a real-life sports figure — in 2001 he portrayed Muhammad Ali in biographical sports drama “Ali”.
