“Unfortunately, I hurt my right hand in practice yesterday and I won’t be able to play in Adelaide, Sydney, and Australian Open this year,” the Australian Open shared the Czech WTA player’s message on Thursday. “I am sad not being able to start my season in Australia and I will miss my Australian fans very much.”

The Australian Open tweeted to Pliskova: “Wishing you a speedy recovery.”

Before Pliskova, Grand Slam champions Serena Williams and Bianca Andreescu had also withdrawn from the Aussie Open.

The 29-year-old Pliskova’s best Grand Slam results are two final appearances, at the 2016 US Open and this year’s Wimbledon, while at the Australian Open her best showing was the semifinal finish in 2019.

The Australian Open starts January 17.
