Ons Jabeur shared loving moments with her husband Karim Kamoun as she was ready to step on the court for her Thursday’s quarterfinal against Anett Kontaveit at the Qatar Totalenergies Open. Photographer Jimmie48 captured the beautiful pre-match energy in a set of black-and-white photos.
The world No.10 Jabeur’s husband is her fitness trainer, Karim Kamoun. After two years of dating, the couple tied the knot in 2015.
Kamoun is a fitness fanatic, as we can conclude from his Instagram profile. That is no surprise as he used to be a professional athlete. His sport was fencing. He represented Tunisia at the African Fencing Championships and the Pan Arab games. He is half-Russian, so Jabeur is learning the Russian language on top of being fluent in English, French and Arabic.
Jabeur started playing tennis at age 3, as her mother Samira loved playing the sport and would take her with her to practice. The Tunisian WTA player developed into a trailblazer for the Arab tennis world. She advanced to her maiden Grand Slam quarterfinal at the 2020 Australian Open to become the first Arab woman to reach that stage at a major, while at Birmingham 2021 she became the first Arab woman to win a WTA title. The 27-year-old broke into the Top 10 in October 2021, following a semifinal run at Indian Wells.
At this week’s Qatar Totalenergies Open, Jabeur advanced to the quarterfinals where she was quickly stopped by Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit, 6-4 6-1.
The pair are known for their on-court rivalry, but also for their super friendly and chill moments before their clashes, which photographer Jimmie48 has immortalized several times. Here’s his latest set of wonderful black-and-white pre-match photos from Doha.
Before this Thursday, Kontaveit had not beaten Jabeur in a completed match since 2014. Now their head-to-head record is 3-3.
