World No.1 Iga Swiatek cruised past Coco Gauff 6-1 6-3 in the 2022 Roland Garros final to win her sixth title in a row this year and second overall at the most prestigious clay-court tournament. What a way to crown a winning streak, with a Grand Slam trophy!

The 21-year-old Swiatek broke Gauff’s serve three times as she raced through the first set in 35 minutes. Gauff, who had not dropped a set en route to the final, opened the second set with a 2-0 lead, but that was pretty much all the resistance we saw from the American teenager, as Swiatek won six of the next seven games.

With wins over Lesia Tsurenko in the first round, Alison Riske in the second, Danka Kovinic in the third, Zheng Qinwen in the fourth, Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals, Daria Kasatkina in the semifinals, and Coco Gauff in the championship match, Swiatek has extended her winning streak to 35 matches.

With the runner-up finish, Gauff will rise to a new career-high WTA singles ranking of No.13. The 18-year-old is still not out of the 2022 French Open, as she returns to the court on Sunday to play the women’s doubles final alongside compatriot Jessica Pegula (their opponents will be France’s Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic).

  1. Iga was just too strong, too confident, just too good for Coco. Just like the world no 1. Great player. But huge congrats to Coco, too. She’s only 18, reached the major final. Hope her tennis will only improve and that we all be a witness of a great rivalry
