Playing her third American opponent in a row, fifth seed Ons Jabeur rallied to beat Shelby Rogers 4-6 6-4 6-3 in the third round of the 2022 US Open.
In the first set, Jabeur went from 0-2 to 3-2, with a break up, but Rogers broke back right away and recorded a crucial break at 5-4 to take the set.
The second set went with serve until 4-4, when Rogers’ double fault handed Jabeur a break which the Tunisian consolidated with a love hold. Having won 16 of the last 17 points, Jabeur also opened the third set by breaking Rogers at love.
At 3-0 down in the decider, Rogers had an opportunity to launch a comeback as she had a break point and Jabeur led only by a single break, but it was not to be as Jabeur won her seventh consecutive game.
Having endured late pressure from the seed No.31, Jabeur converted her sixth match point and improved her head-to-head record against Rogers to 3-0.
Contesting her 30th Grand Slam main draw, Rogers impressed with her Fila x Brandon Maxwell outfit. This Friday she chose the navy/green version of the Fila x Brandon Maxwell Racer Tank which features front overlapping panels that create a keyhole detail and the Print Skirt from the new collection.
