Marta Kostyuk was among prominent Nike representatives on the Hologic WTA Tour, but the Ukrainian is entering 2023 without her clothing sponsor from previous years.
Kostyuk is playing this week’s Adelaide International 1 in Australia and we can see that she’s not wearing Nike tennis clothes. The world No.69 sported a green dress without the Swoosh as she defeated Jaimee Fourlis in the first round.
Ever since she rose to prominence in 2018, Kostyuk represented Nike, so it’s a big deal now that she’s departed from this sportswear giant. Who is the 20-year-old’s new clothing sponsor and does she even have one?
As she eliminated reigning Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in the second round, we could confirm that the green dress has a Wilson logo on the upper back. Moreover, Kostyuk sported white Wilson tennis shoes and her mom was seen in the stands wearing a Wilson-branded green tee.
Kostyuk is not the only WTA player who is starting the 2023 season without Nike. Donna Vekic has moved away from the Swoosh to create her own ladies’ line — Donna Sport — together with luxury men’s sports apparel brand Uomo Sport. Sloane Stephens and Marketa Vondrousova are also no longer with Nike.
It looks like Vondrousova is another Nike casualty, she is also wearing unbranded clothing in Adelaide.
Karo, wow so many players are no longer with Nike. Thanks for noting that! I will write a separate article about it.
I know!! It really looks like they’ve let a lot of players go. I couldn’t determine what Vondrousova was wearing- she still had Nike shoes and visor, but her top and skirt were definitely not Nike.
Karo, as I said, changes like these are normal at the start of the year, I just hope that it’s not due to a major financial crisis so that companies are cutting back on their advertising budget.
-yesterday it looks like Vondrousova wore a Lululemon top and skirt.
Pa kad ne prestaje da laje normalno joj dali sut kartu
Pollyanna Clark, thanks for the note. Could be, but I don’t think that she is sponsored by them as she is wearing a Nike cap and Lululemon logo would be larger on her clothes.
What about Sabalenka?
Suprised to see Nike let go of such a talent like Marta. Looks like shes sponsored by Wilson now – as theres a W logo on the back of that green dress, as well as her white shoes, which have Wilson branding on them. Also, her mum in the stands was wearing Wilson branded green Tee, when she was playing against Rybakina yesterday.
Migi, she’s still wearing Nike.
William Alexander, thanks so much for this information. I actually read that it may be Wilson, someone on Twitter commented, but they weren’t sure. You provided more details and definite confirmation. I will update this article now.
Your very welcome Marija! Thanks for the fantastic work you do on this website :))
