Martina Navratilova has been diagnosed with two forms of cancer, in her throat and breast tissue. Fortunately, this horrible news comes with a ray of hope, as the tennis legend claims that her prognosis is good and that her treatment is due to start next week in New York City.
The 66-year-old Navratilova first discovered a lump in her neck during the WTA Finals in Fort Worth in November 2022. When she had it checked, the biopsy results pointed to an early-stage throat cancer. As she was undergoing tests on her throat, the unrelated stage-one breast cancer was discovered.
“This double whammy is serious but still fixable, and I’m hoping for a favorable outcome,” said Navratilova, who won a total of 59 Grand Slam titles in her illustrious career. “It’s going to stink for a while but I’ll fight with all I have got.”
The word ‘despair’ doesn’t exist in Navratilova’s vocabulary. In 2010, she was faced with a breast cancer diagnosis for the first time and she bravely approached the health problem. The tumour was surgically removed.
Navratilova has won dozens of big battles in her life and we are sure that this latest one will be just another challenge that the member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame will successfully overcome. (source: WTA, photo: Jimmie48)
Good Luck, I am Glad to see that you are still competitive .
I would like to discuss a coaching item with you from my Uncle who was a top 10 Player in the 30″s with Jack Kramer
So If you reply to me, I will tell you what a player can do to make that extra point to close a match .
As you know, many many games are 6.3 or 4 or tiebreakers and that is really one point at a critical time .
My uncle was a lawyer and did not turn PRO as jack Kramer asked him, as then the prize money was so small .
he was a non-Playing Davis Cup Captain for the West Indies .and won the Pan Am games against Glen Hall, who was ranked 5 at the time .
I sent Billie Jean King A SIMILAR NOTE, BUT NO REPLY YET
Paul Tie, I’m not sure what you’re talking about. It seems unrelated to this article.
