Current world No.1 and defending champion Iga Swiatek fought past former world No.1 and 2018 champion Karolina Pliskova 4-6 6-1 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart.
Wearing the Fila Tie Breaker Cross Back Tank and Tie Breaker High Waist Skirt, Pliskova took a commanding lead of 4-0 in the opening set, leaving Swiatek with an uphill battle. Although Swiatek managed to break Pliskova’s serve once, she was unable to do it again and eventually lost the set. Despite her efforts, Swiatek ran out of time to mount a full comeback.
The second set saw a complete reversal of fortune, as Swiatek surged to a 4-0 lead. Pliskova managed to get one break back to make it 4-1, but Swiatek continued to play aggressively and broke Pliskova’s serve once again. Swiatek capitalized on Pliskova’s 18 unforced errors and closed out the set to force a decisive third set.
With the momentum on her side, the top seed looked determined to claim victory in the match. That’s indeed what happened, as Swiatek cruised through the third set without dropping serve.
Having recently changed her tennis clothing sponsor, Swiatek played her first match in On apparel in the second round of the Stuttgart tournament. She wore a stylish black-and-white tank with a swirly print, paired with a black skirt. In the quarterfinals, Swiatek took her fashion game up a notch and introduced a different yet equally eye-catching ensemble. The black-and-white tank featured a unique pattern resembling a wide-tooth comb.
In the semifinals, Swiatek will face third seed Ons Jabeur, who raced past Beatriz Haddad Maia in the quarterfinals, 6-3 6-0.
