Tennis fans have a lot to look forward to this clay-court season as Hsieh Su-Wei and Barbora Strycova are set to make their comeback at next week’s Mutua Madrid Open. Hsieh, a former world No.1 in doubles, hasn’t played since finishing as a runner-up at the Akron WTA Finals Guadalajara in 2021. On the other hand, Strycova hasn’t competed since the 2021 Australian Open.
The excitement of their return to the sport is palpable, as evidenced by Hsieh’s recent Instagram post. The Taiwanese player shared a boomerang video of herself on the clay courts of the Mutua Madrid Open, accompanied by a caption expressing her happiness to be back in the city.
Interestingly, Hsieh was supposed to make a surprise comeback at February’s Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, but she encountered a visa issue that forced her to adjust her travel plans. However, she’s back and ready to compete, along with her doubles partner Strycova.
The Czech player, who is also a former world No.1 in doubles, shared an Instagram story of herself and her toddler Vincent walking through the airport on their way to Madrid. Strycova has a busy schedule ahead, with plans to play in Rome, Wimbledon, the US Open, and possibly Prague.
This doubles pairing first teamed up in 2018, and their partnership quickly gained attention due to their unique playing styles and strong chemistry on the court. They won the 2019 Wimbledon women’s doubles title together, and finished runner-up at the 2020 Australian Open and 2019 WTA Finals.
Fans can’t wait to see Hsieh and Strycova back in action. The Mutua Madrid Open is the perfect venue for their comeback, and with their impressive track record in doubles, they’re sure to give their opponents a run for their money. Keep an eye out for their matches, and let’s all give them a warm welcome back to the court!
