Emma Raducanu shared a photo from hospital bed, announcing that she’s finished all three of her planned surgeries and she’s now continuing her recovery process. Even though her bandaged body looks like it is out of a war zone, the 20-year-old tennis star has a brave and positive smile on her face.
Earlier this month, Raducanu announced that she would have to miss the summer tournaments in order to deal with recurring injuries that had caused her to cut the last season short and miss weeks of training. The 2021 US Open champion couldn’t manage the injuries any longer and play through the pain, so she underwent minor procedures on both hands. In addition, she used the time away from competition to also treat her left ankle, undergoing a total of three procedures in two weeks.
On her Instagram, Raducanu gave us an insight into recovery time. Even world-class athletes have their couch potato moments! The tennis pro shows that she’s just like us by indulging in loads of sweets, including Lindt chocolate and Ferrero Rocher.
The last tournament Raducanu played was the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart. After being awkwardly uncommunicative during a press conference ahead of the Mutua Madrid Open, Raducanu withdrew from the tournament citing a right hand injury. That’s when it became clear why she looked so drained and why she uttered a total of just 58 words while answering media questions in Madrid.
Raducanu’s singles ranking is now down to No.103. Hopefully her smile is not just for social media. I’m wishing her a speedy recovery and a strong comeback at the US Open.
