Muguruza and Borges, who works as a businessman and model, have been together since 2021, when they met by chance during the US Open in New York’s Central Park. Borges recognized the tennis star while passing by, wished her luck, and their love story took off from there.
The couple made their relationship public during the 2021 Akron WTA Finals Guadalajara, when Borges was hugging and kissing champion Muguruza during the trophy ceremony. Earlier in 2021, he had also been spotted in the WTA star’s box during the September 27th – October 3rd Chicago Fall Tennis Classic. In May 2023, the lovebirds got engaged in Marbella, which made the Spanish beach town the perfect setting for their wedding.
Vogue Spain covered Muguruza’s stunning bridal fashion, offering a look at the two Pronovias dresses she chose for the occasion. For the ceremony, she wore a satin gown with a two-meter-long train and a delicate netted headpiece, evoking the elegance of old Hollywood. Later, she switched to a flapper-inspired reception dress adorned with crystal fringes and a striking floral embroidery on the shoulder.
In an interview with ¡Hola!, Muguruza reflected on her whirlwind romance, describing it as “a total movie.” She shared that she knew Borges was the one before he even proposed, saying, “It was love at first sight and we realized very quickly that we were an ideal couple.”
In April 2024, Muguruza announced her retirement from the WTA Tour, citing her desire to explore new challenges and spend more time with her family. In June, she took on a new role as the WTA Finals Riyadh tournament director.
