In a recent interview with TIME, Aryna Sabalenka discussed her wedding and family plans, revealing that she and her fiancé, Georgios Frangulis, would ideally like to get married in Greece in September 2027. She also shared her hopes for when she would like to become a mother.

Ahead of the 2026 US Open, where she will attempt to complete a rare title hat-trick—a feat she admits she wants “pretty badly”—Sabalenka praised her partner’s unwavering support since the beginning of their relationship in 2024 and confirmed that marriage could be on the horizon next year.

Sabalenka reveals her wedding and motherhood plans

Frangulis, the founder and CEO of açaí chain Oakberry, proposed in March 2026, just a few months after Sabalenka called him out in front of a packed Brisbane International crowd. “Thank you to my boyfriend. Hopefully soon I’ll call you something else, right?” she said at the time.

Now, Sabalenka has a clearer picture of what she would like her future to look like. Ideally, she says, she and Frangulis would marry in Greece in September 2027, with the country already one of their favorite vacation destinations. She hopes to start a family at 32, return to the tour for a few seasons and then have a second child. But the 28-year-old also recognizes that life rarely follows a perfect plan, invoking an old saying: “Man plans, God laughs.”

“That’s what ideally I want,” Sabalenka said. “But whatever life’s going to bring, I’m ready for it.”

Frangulis keeps Sabalenka’s best interests in mind

Since the beginning of their relationship, Frangulis has been supportive of Sabalenka’s career and has made her needs a priority. Her coach, Anton Dubrov, highlighted the Brazilian entrepreneur’s willingness to respect the demands of her professional life.

“He was really supportive and really helpful for the team,” Dubrov said. “He was always asking us, ‘What do you think, guys? Should I be at practice? Should I be at the matches?’ Sometimes relationships can be not helpful. But he was asking, ‘What do you think would be the best for her?'”

“Tennis really saved me from depression”: Sabalenka on ex-boyfriend Konstantin Koltsov’s death

Sabalenka also reflected on one of the most painful periods of her life: the death of her former long-term boyfriend, ex-NHL player Konstantin Koltsov, who died in Miami in 2024 in what authorities described as an apparent suicide. At the time, Sabalenka was preparing to compete at the Miami Open, while the public was not aware that the couple had already ended their relationship.

Dubrov and others around her encouraged Sabalenka to take time away from tennis. She chose to play instead, eventually losing in the third round, and faced criticism on social media for returning to competition so quickly.

For Sabalenka, however, tennis became a way to cope with her grief.

“Tennis really saved me from depression,” she said. “I was just trying to focus on training, just so I spend less time with myself in my thoughts. I would cry in practice a lot. It was a very tough moment in my life.

Sabalenka eyes a historic US Open hat-trick

Sabalenka will soon head to New York carrying immense expectations and an opportunity to further cement her place among the sport’s elite. Failing to win a Grand Slam this year would mark her first major-less season since 2022 and could put her hold on the world No. 1 ranking in jeopardy. A third consecutive US Open triumph, however, would cement her place in tennis history. “I want it pretty badly,” she says, promising fans “great tennis, fashion, fighting, emotions.” Speaking of fashion, she’s referring to her much-talked-about Nike New York Slam Mesh Dress.
