One of the favorites for the title, third seed Jelena Jankovic, failed to progress to the quarterfinals falling to 18th seed Marion Bartoli 6-3 5-7 3-6.

Jankovic has been the form player of 2007 but faltered in the final set, dropping serve three times. Desperate, she even screamed: “Could I play any worse?!”

After the match Bartoli said: “I think at the end I was a little physically stronger than her, she didn’t know really what tactic to play against me out there.”

“It’s not a big surprise for me – I’m a top-20 player – but I haven’t won Wimbledon. It was a great match overall, I played great, I was happy but not over happy.

“That’s why I’m working these 16 years, to be on this big stage and win against big players.”

Bartoli now faces 31st seed Michaella Krajicek, who advanced to the quarterfinals defeating America’s Laura Granville in straight sets. (via BBC Sport)
