Sandra Klemenschits, a cancer survivor who lost her twin sister and doubles partner five years ago to a rare form of abdominal cancer, won her first WTA title since coming back – the Nurnberger Gastein Ladies doubles with Andreja Klepac.

Sandra and her sister Daniela were diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma in January 2007. Being told that the type of cancer was incurable and that they did not have much time to live, the sisters decided to hang up the tennis racquet. But then Sandra, following the death of her sister, was offered a wildcard from the Bad Gastein tournament director in 2008 and she entered, playing with another doubles partner for the first time. Past weekend, at the Nurnberger Gastein Ladies, the 30-year-old Sandra won her first career doubles title.

Sandra still goes to Vienna for control every two months.
