Venus Williams has remained undefeated on her third straight travel to the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, giving no chance to Alize Cornet in the final to extend her Dubai winning streak to 15-matches, which dates back to the years 2009 and 2010 when she previously played the tournament and won titles.
Promoting her EleVen clothing line in the Fiore Mixed Doubles Dress, Venus lifted the Premier-level trophy and earned $471,841 in prize money without losing a set or playing a tiebreak all week. In the first round Venus dispatched Elena Vesnina, then Ana Ivanovic, in the quarterfinals Flavia Pennetta, in the semis eighth seed Caroline Wozniacki, and today against Cornet, who advanced to the final with a surprise victory over world No.1 Serena Williams, wildcard Venus was absolutely dominant, winning the last seven games of the match for the triumph, 6-3 6-0. Devastated, Cornet was even sobbing to her coach at a changeover.
Dubai has been a great tournament for Women’s Tennis Blog, all thanks to the coverage of my dedicated photographer Jimmie48, who was one of the most hard-working people at the venue, capturing all the amazing moments, athletic movements and emotional expressions. Have one more look at his photos from Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I’ve added my favorite photos to the Action Shots board of Women’s Tennis Blog’s Pinterest profile, feel free to repin them.
