Dominika Cibulkova

Dominika Cibulkova recently launched her fashion line “Domi” and the slogan “Pome” (meaning “come on” in Slovak) that her collection is recognized for have certainly inspired the Bratislava native, as she added the Abierto Mexicano TELCEL title to her runner-up finish at the 2014 Australian Open. By virtue of these successes, Cibulkova will rise to a career-high of No.11 in the WTA rankings.

It was not an easy final match for the top-seeded 24-year-old, who had not lost a set in her earlier victories against Urszula Radwanska, Yanina Wickmayer, Marina Erakovic and Zhang Shuai (retired). The opponent in the final, Christina McHale, was a firm obstacle – she even worked her way back from 2-5 to 4-5 in the deciding set and saved three match points before having a point to level to 5-5. Still, it was Cibulkova who eventually celebrated 7-6(3) 4-6 6-4.

The Acapulco trophy earned Cibulkova $43,000 in prize money, the same amount as her fellow this weekend’s WTA winner Klara Zakopalova earned in Florianopolis. (photo: Jimmie48)
