Kim Clijsters will be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame on July 22, in a grand ceremony in Newport, Rhode Island, and her long-time clothing sponsor Fila designed a special apparel and accessory range in the Belgian’s honor.
If you remember Clijsters’ clothes from her last year on tour, in particular the 2012 iconic farewell collection, these new designs, to be available as of July 17th exclusively at the International Tennis Hall of Fame, will look familiar to you, being a limited-edition reissue of that collection.
A plethora of details commemorate the former world No.1’s individuality and illustrious career. Fila’s signature red, white and navy color palette pays homage to Kim’s adopted home (USA). Hundreds of small decorative stars pay tribute to her stellar career, while eleven large stars are there to represent her years with Fila. Four of those eleven stars feature an outline of a tennis ball, highlighting her four Grand Slam singles titles. Moreover, the Fila x ITHF x Kim Clijsters collection, including a cap-sleeve top, one of Kim’s favorite silhouettes, features design elements such as diagonal red stripes and red piping.
To round out the collection, Fila created a selection of accessories: a visor, wristbands and a duffle bag.
Kim is thrilled that her long-time clothing sponsor took the time to commemorate her officially becoming a tennis legend, while she’s extra happy that a portion of the proceeds will go to the ITHF and her own foundation Ten4Kim, which provides funding to juniors in need of financial assistance for practice, travel, and coaching.
It’s so special to me that they have gone to such great lengths to celebrate my Hall of Fame induction. This outfit has meaning in every detail. It’s representative of my entire career and to see it out again as I become a Hall of Famer is really moving for me. At this point in my career, I’m focused on the next generation of tennis players and to know that the proceeds of this collection will help players who are trying to build their careers is extra special.
Even though she’s a mom of three now, the 34-year-old Clijsters is still very much around tennis. Most recently we saw her at Wimbledon, playing women’s invitational match partnered with Rennae Stubbs against Conchita Martinez and Andrea Jaeger. And you bet she reminded us why we love her so much!
Somehow, she also managed to make it to Yanina Wickmayer’s wedding in Belgium on Saturday. Everything seems so easy when Kim does it!
What a great cause! Congrats to Kim!
Queen! An amazing player and an even more amazing person on and off court…
