Angelique Kerber defeated her longtime friend and compatriot Andrea Petkovic in the second round of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in their 12th career meeting.

The 2015 and 2016 Stuttgart champion Kerber confidently opened the encounter with a break and even though Petkovic broke back right away, when she wasted a chance to go up 3-1, the rest of the set was dominated by her fifth-seeded opponent.

After a close battle in the first half of the second set, wildcard Petkovic double-faulted and handed Kerber a break in the crucial seventh game. From that moment the match went with serve until Kerber triumphed 6-2 6-4 in 74 minutes for her ninth victory over Petkovic.

Apparently, it will be one more dinner where Petko yells at Angie! 🙂 I’m referring to Petkovic’s quote about her losses to Kerber when she said:

So, I just yell at her when we have dinner afterwards. But hopefully now I’ll get her to yell at me at dinner (laughs).

The Germans sported matching outfits from the new Adidas Escouade collection, making the photos from their warm hugs at the net even more beautiful.

In the quarterfinals, Kerber will face sixth seed Kiki Bertens, who hit as many as 20 aces en route to her comeback victory over Belinda Bencic, 4-6 6-3 6-4.
