Elina Svitolina was a guest on Alize Lim‘s show Major Talk and the Ukrainian world No.5 talked about how she’s been doing in the lockdown, estimated the prospects for the 2020 season, and revealed how crazy she was about Andre Agassi.
Activities during lockdown
Barely going out of the house where she’s been quarantining with boyfriend Gael Monfils, Svitolina uses her extra time to exercise, build TikTok influence, and work on her nutrition studies that she started a year and a half ago. As you know, the 25-year-old, who has two more tests to finish her nutrition course, has recently launched a food blog called The ES Club.
On meeting her tennis idol Andre Agassi:
I met him and I was shaking. I wanted to take a picture with him and I couldn’t talk, seriously. When he started working with Novak, I was super happy, because I could see him on the tour… And then it took me maybe one year to ask him for a picture. All the time I was like ‘I don’t know if I can’, I was sweating…
Thoughts on resumption of tennis in 2020
Even though she really misses that winning feeling, Svitolina is not so optimistic when it comes to the date we’ll again have international tennis as we know it. Since tennis tournaments are played all over the world and attract big crowds, Svitolina doesn’t see that happening anytime soon, at earliest maybe in December, during the off-season.
When asked whether she would play without audience in stadiums, she said that she would rather wait to have everything back to normal, as spectators are the ones giving players the energy and motivating them to perform well.
Just before the coronavirus shut down the entire world, Svitolina won the Abierto GNP Seguros title in Monterrey.
