Sofia Kenin is COVID-19 positive, won’t play US Open

Sofia Kenin has been experiencing only mild COVID-19 symptoms, but due to repeated positive coronavirus tests, the 2020 Australian Open champion is forced to opt out of the 2021 US Open.

The world number five Kenin is vaccinated and from her message on social media we are assured that she feels fine. Still, the protocols are such that she is not allowed to play the tournament in order not to spread the virus.

The 22-year-old American, who hasn’t played since a second-round loss at Wimbledon due to a foot injury, is now focusing on her form for the closing part of the season:

I plan to spend the next several weeks getting healthy and preparing to play well this fall.

Kenin’s withdrawal comes shortly after both Serena and Venus Williams announced that they would miss the Grand Slam in New York due to leg injuries.

Appendicitis, injury, now Covid? How unluncky is she?
I really hope she’ll be in full shape in 2022 and showing the world why she won AO 2020 and was a RG finalist.

Gin, good thing is that she is not really sick now. She just tested positive and she’ll be fine in no time. Although it is very bad luck to have to miss the US Open.

Is she not vaccinated? Is Coco Gauff vaccinated? It would be helpful that the players of the WTA &ATP encourged their fans to get vaccinated..
