Williams sisters, Sharapova, Osaka, Raducanu hit the red carpet at Met Gala

Monday’s Met Gala featured more women’s tennis players than ever. Three WTA legends Serena Williams, Venus Williams and Maria Sharapova were accompanied by newly-crowned US Open champion Emma Raducanu and US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez. Naomi Osaka had the honor of being a co-host at the annual fundraising gala in New York City. Sloane Stephens and Ajla Tomljanovic were also there.

Responding to the American independence theme, Serena Williams wore a star-printed Gucci leotard, white lace tights and a giant ombre feather-laden cape. The 23-time Grand Slam champion’s husband Alexis Ohanian accompanied her on the red carpet.

Naomi Osaka uses every opportunity to honor her heritage through her outfits. For her debut Met Gala appearance, the tennis star wore a colorful corseted Louis Vuitton dress with a red obi belt. The print is designed by her sister Mari as a tribute to their Haitian and Japanese roots. The look also includes a black ruffled cape and ankle boots. This is by far Osaka’s boldest look ever, completed with a red eyeshadow and knotted-braid updo.

Osaka was a co-chair at the event and she was accompanied by her boyfriend Cordae.

Fresh US Open champion Emma Raducanu has skyrocketed into stardom. Now ranked No.23 in the world, the British teenager made her first Met Gala appearance wearing a monochrome Chanel co-ord set, a pearl waist chain, and Tiffany & Co. earrings.

US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez dazzled in a black-and-white Carolina Herrera dress inspired by the dresses Serena and Venus Williams wore for a 1998 Vogue photo shoot.

  1. Where to start:
Maria, Venus, & Sloane really showed classic elegance
Serena Williams lacey jumpsuit looked great, but that furry sugar daddy coat kinda threw me off.
Leylah needs to hire a better stylish cause that is too minimal for Met Gala, looks like she just came back from her first middle school dance.
Emma had sass & modern looked to it but she needs a better hairstyle & bolder make up.
Naomi looked so edgy, probably the most artistic out of them all in term of creativity, but that hair to the side with em wax is really forcing it

  2. I think Serena looked the best and also had the best response to the theme. My second favorite is Emma — youthful, classy and edgy at the same time. Naomi’s outfit will definitely stay remembered for years to come, but there was too much going on, especially with the hair.

Ian, you’re right. I skipped it because I included all the players separately, but I can add it. 🙂
