Retired Dutch WTA player Kiki Bertens has announced pregnancy, three months after playing the last tennis matches of her career.
The 29-year-old Bertens and her husband Remko de Rijke drew a heart in the sand on the beach, with the date August 2022 written inside the heart. The WTA star’s photo caption “Big adventures, start small #babyiscoming” reveals that the couple is expecting their first child.

Carla Suarez Navarro, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Tamira Paszek, Andrea Petkovic, Julia Goerges, Alison Van Uytvanck, Dominika Cibulkova, Timea Babos, Sabine Lisicki and Dinara Safina were all quick to congratulate the couple within the first few hours of their pregnancy announcement on social media.
Berten’s husband Remko de Rijke is a physiotherapist. They got engaged during a vacation in Bali in 2018, and married a year later.
Even though she was still ranked very high at the time of retirement, inside the Top 25, Bertens felt that it was time to hang up her racquet, as her 100% dedication wasn’t delivering desired results any longer. The Tokyo Olympics were her last tournament.
Bertens won ten WTA singles titles in 12 years competing on the WTA Tour. Her career-high ranking was No.4.
