Barbora Krejcikova‘s singles title defense at the French Open ended already in the first round, as she lost to French teenager ranked No.97 in the world, Diane Perry. The battle was not over for the Czech, though, as she had hopes of defending the doubles title she won with Katerina Siniakova. However, that plan is also ruined now because of COVID-19, as Krejcikova explains in her Instagram story:
Last night I started to feel bad and this morning I woke up with fever. I decided to get tested for COVID and it came back positive.
I am extremely sad that I won’t be able to defend my title in doubles here, but on the positive side, I am glad I am injury free and can’t wait to get healthy and back to training.
This week in Paris, Krejcikova was playing her first match since Doha after being sidelined since February with an elbow injury.
Top doubles seeds Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova were scheduled to play Anna Kalinskaya and Dalma Galfi in the first round on Thursday.
A day earlier, Czech player Marie Bouzkova also withdrew from the tournament because of a positive COVID-19 test.
