The tennis world is shocked to learn that two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep is divorcing Toni Iuruc after less than a year of marriage.
After about three years of dating, the former world No.1 Halep and businessman Iuruc tied the knot in a civil wedding ceremony in Constanta, Romania in mid-September last year. Their church wedding was set to take place in Sinaia in November, but the couple has instead already signed divorce papers, according to Fanatik. They have 30 days to change their minds about the split.
Halep, only the third WTA player in history to surpass $40 million in prize money, and her wealthy ex-husband left the court in Bucharest smiling and didn’t give any statements to the media. According to the Romanian publication, the two have no financial claims or property division.
This is the end of Halep’s first marriage and Iuruc’s third. At the ongoing US Open, Halep was upset by Daria Snigur in the first round.
